HISTORY

Our brief historical background of the mountain is provided in order to ensure that you get the most from our mountain tour. Juan de Bolas Mountain is the highest peak in the parish of St Catherine, at approximately 1000m above sea level. Visiting the mountain is in many ways engaging with the past, as this historic mountain is named after the first Chief of the Jamaican maroons (Juan de-Bolas) who, in the mid 17th century established a community and lived among the people.

A refreshing mountain walk for experiencing the Beauty, History and People of Juan de Bolas Mountain communities.You'll be escaping to the mountain where it's quite, fresh air rejuvenates, and spelbounding blue skies.This trekking adventure takes place among nature, the perfect escape and the chance to reconnect with what truly grounds us.Our guided hiking/trail walk which carters for all ages (including accompanied minors) explores the rolling hills and the charming mountain communities, full of historic character with a warm welcome and good food to sustain you on your journey. You will discover a hidden world that only a few have seen before, savouring panoramic views that are guaranteed to make your trek, completely worth it!The trek allows you to get closer to the heart of the community. Beyond its historical Maroon connection, lies thriving communities on the lush green mountain, just waiting to be explored.The mountain trails are among the oldest and pleasant with the added bonus of the opportunity for sampling Worthy Park Distillery's rum and beverages. Among the highlights are miles of stone wall, built by slaves with a river along its length which offers the chance for you to dip your toes, quite literally, into this beautiful part of the world.

Our Agri - tours are occasions to identify and taste popular and favourite farm produce and learn the importance of various farming methods. It also creates a space for coming together, basking in the joy of the great outdoors and having fun in the midst of supporting local farmers and community partnerships.Visitors will be invited during their visit, to be involved in seeing where countryside food produce comes from. Juan de Bolas Mountain community farms are inviting and intended to be gathering places for farmers to connect with visitors.

You'll be invited to come and engage in local arts and crafts for the excitement it brings. Our aim is to cultivate a cultural identity by setting the countryside apart and attracting visitors to its uniqueness - allowing people to identify with rural jamaica and bringing visitors and locals together.You'll be Exploring everything from contemporary jewellery, natural skin and hair care, essential oils, naturally sourced herbs and spices to artisanal products.
